FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — April marks National Sexual Assault and Awareness Prevention Month. It serves as an opportunity for us to reaffirm our commitment to eliminating sexual assault and sexual harassment.
This year’s theme is “Change Through Unity: Empower. Protect. Prevent.” It highlights the importance of working together to build a respectful culture for all. Sexual harassment, assault and retaliation degrade trust, negatively impact readiness, and have no place in our military. Each one of us plays an important role in upholding a safe and positive environment. We must live our values, intervene when our high standards are not met and encourage those in your care to do the same. Educate your teams on bystander intervention, reporting processes and available resources. Let’s re-commit to working together to eliminate this problem through education, prevention, investigation, accountability, victim care and advocacy, and continuous assessment. Sexual assault and harassment prevention are critical in protecting all our teammates, maintaining trust and supporting the Army Values.
